On the most beautiful trails around Schenna
Peter’s passion for biking began in his childhood. “Our father always made sure we spent a lot of time outdoors,” he says. From an early age he and his brother were riding mountain bikes – of course without electric support back then. His love for biking developed naturally.
Today biking is many things for him: sport, relaxation and above all the chance to experience nature around Schenna. “What I enjoy most is being outdoors,” he explains. And of course, a bit of adrenaline on the way down is always welcome.
Schenna is a perfect starting point for mountain bikers. From here you can quickly reach beautiful areas such as Schenna Mountain, the Hirzer area or the Tschögglberg with Merano 2000. There are easy tours as well as more challenging natural trails.
One of Peter’s favorite tours leads to Leiten Alm. From there the trail continues downhill via Lenzeben with beautiful natural trails and great views. With guests he especially likes riding towards Videgg in the Hirzer area, a small mountain village with a fantastic view over the valley and a perfect place for a break or lunch.
For Peter, the perfect bike tour includes a pleasant climb – preferably on natural paths instead of asphalt – a stop at a mountain hut and an enjoyable ride back to the valley.
If he had to recommend only one tour, it would definitely be the Hirzer area. “Whether you ride to Videgg or even further up, everyone will find a suitable route. The landscape is beautiful and the mountain huts along the way are excellent.”
Peter’s tips for guests:
• Take it easy with the elevation gain. Around Schenna you can collect many meters of altitude in a short time.
• Ask locals about routes. Apps like Komoot sometimes show paths where you have to push the bike for long sections.
• Do a quick bike check before starting: brakes, battery or gears – and ideally bring a small repair kit.
