Excursion tips from the family hotel near Meran

For those who spend their holidays at our family hotel in Meran & Environs, we have compiled three great excursion tips. Are you longing for more? Then simply contact our reception – we are always available to give helpful tips and recommendation.

The Taser cable car takes you up to Schennaberg, where the Taser family Alpine pasture is located at an elevation of more than 1,400 metres. This is home to ponies, dwarf goats, ducks, and rabbits. In addition to a small mountain zoo, there is also a playground with slides, a sandpit, and many other highlights for kids. Above the Alpine pasture, there is a high ropes course for the little ones who want to experience great adventures during their stay at the family hotel in Schenna.

The adventure trail starts in the village of Hafling, where you can park comfortably. The car park in Hafling is about 15 minutes away from our family hotel in Schenna. From there the adventure trail with its 12 stations, which are dedicated to the lovely Haflinger horses, starts to St. Kathrein.

The Alpine Bob is ideal for families and guarantees a ride full of adrenalin, in winter and summer. The 1.1-kilometre-long rail toboggan run starts at Piffing and is easy to reach, with the Falzeben cable car, the Merano 2000 cable car or simply on foot. The bobsleigh floats swingingly, sometimes 12 metres above the forest floor, providing fun and adrenalin for young and old. The Alpine Bob is an unforgettable experience. After the rapid ride you will receive a souvenir photo on request.

The Children's Adventure Park at the top station of the Merano 2000 cable car provides pure fun: double cable car, balancing on the wobble course and slacklines with different levels of difficulty, floor jumping trampolines, climbing on the small climbing wall and the climbing tree trunks and slides, nodding horses for toddlers, a nest swing and a wooden bowling alley consisting of several channels, funnels and obstacles that keep the ball run exciting until the end. Ponies, dwarf goats and rabbits from the petting zoo also look forward to loving cuddles. In the Kids Camp children and teenagers will enjoy it to the fullest.

At the top station Merano 2000 the youngest children can gain their first skiing experience. Whether in the fully supervised ski kindergarten including playroom, in the mini ski club or children's courses and private lessons for beginners - on the flat slopes the first turns can be made and then they will be pulled back to the start by the “magic carpets”. The Kids Camp at 2.000 metres above sea level offers plenty of space to have fun and play in the snow.

One winter sport that is just as much fun for children as for adults is ice skating. Fun on the ice is offered from mid-November to the beginning of January on the ice rink in the centre of the village of Schenna. There is also an ice skate rental and beverage stand on site.

The Care Centre for Bird Fauna, Castle Tyrol, is located directly on the castle hill, about 15 minutes away from your holiday home in Schenna. Twice a day, from the end of March to the beginning of November, except Mondays, visitors have the unique opportunity to observe and get to know eagles, vultures, falcons, owls and buzzards in action at close range. At 11.15 a.m. and 3.15 p.m., various birds of prey are released to fly freely over the castle hill.

The rustic mountain farm is about 30 minutes away from our family hotel in Schenna near Merano. The farm is located at 1100 m, near Gfrill, on the road to the Gampen Pass. The large area is a true animal paradise. Next to the eating area you will find individual, subdivided enclosures where deer, old breeds of domestic animals such as Galloway cattle, wool sheep and Valaisian black-nosed sheep as well as other animals such as prairie dogs, dwarf goats, donkeys, emus, water turtles and squirrels have found a home.
The Rainguthof animal world can be visited at any time of the year. For children, a visit is always an experience, as you can stroke some of the animals and there are always offspring throughout the year.

Italy's largest digital model railway is located in Rabland, about 35 minutes from your holiday home in Scena. There fun for young and old is guaranteed. The railway world opened in 2009 and is now one of the most popular attractions in our country. With over 20,000 individual pieces, it is one of the largest private collections in Europe.
Advice: In the children's corner, children get active. For example, they can steer a train themselves and set the points. Of course, adults are also allowed to join in.

Starting point is the car parking above the restaurant Waldschenke in Marling, which can be reached in about 20 minutes from the Schenna Resort. The entrance is above the Marlinger Waalweg path. A squirrel is the path mascot and leads through the 26 play and knowledge stations. There are challenges for children of all ages and the adults also enjoy trying their best at the various courses. The individual stations are close to each other, so that the little ones never get bored. Climbing, balancing and swinging, and there are always information boards with interesting facts about the forest and animals, as well as resting stations that invite you to take a break. Important: If you want to do this hike, please inform yourself about the current conditions on site again!

The ArcheoPark is located in Schnalstal about 45 minutes from our family hotel in Schenna near Meran. Here, both young and old can experience how Ötzi, the Iceman, once lived. Authentic replicas of Neolithic wooden houses, trees, bushes, and fields relate more about the past and give children, in particular, a clear idea of Ötzi’s life – an absolute must during your stay at our children’s hotel near Meran.

Less than two hours away from our family hotel in Schenna, you can find the Gardaland theme park and the Caneva World water park. For those who love fun and adventure, they are the ideal destination for a family outing. Besides the roller coasters, the amusement park also offers many other highlights such as ghost trains and 4D clips from the film Ice Age. At Caneva World, over 100-metre-long slides and various exciting water pools not only impress the youngest visitors on family holidays in Meran and Environs.
