A holiday in Schenna: Alpine-Mediterranean joie de vivre
Schenna Resort – above Meran on the sunny side of the Alps
Are you craving for a place of rest and relaxation, where not only your body but also your mind and soul can come alive? Then leave everyday life behind and set off for a holiday in Schenna. In one of the most beautiful spots in South Tyrol, on a sunny hill above the spa town of Meran, peace and inspiration are guaranteed. Lovely Schenna offers a wonderful panoramic view of Meran & Environs with its picturesque natural landscape of apple orchards, vineyards, palm trees, and cypresses. With its favourable location, nestled between aromatic apple trees and picturesque palm trees on sunny slopes, all your senses are equally indulged. The mountain peaks above Meran are in plain sight; a sight which provides a wealth of wonder and positive feelings. In Schenna, one thing is more than clear: Alpine and Mediterranean are not a contradiction but a harmonious ensemble that delights the heart.

One of the most interesting sights in Schenna is situated on an artificial terrace that lies to the west of the church on the hill. This monumental tomb is the final resting place for Archduke Johann of Austria and his family. Built between 1860 and 1869, red sandstone and granite from the Ifinger area were used according to the plans of the Viennese architect Prof. Moritz Wappler and construction was completed in just nine years.

An exciting visit to the castle with kith and kin sets everyone’s pulse racing. Built in 1350, Schenna Castle, one of the most important and most stunning castles in South Tyrol, not only attracts visitors with its fantastic view overlooking Meran & Environs but also with the largest private Andreas Hofer collection, paintings by famous Tyrolean artists, magnificent tiled stoves, weapons dating over six centuries, and many other highlights.

Enjoy nature, get some fresh air, walk barefoot across green Alpine meadows, enjoy the scent of fresh hay, and marvel at the magnificent view from the top of the mountain. Quiet moments under the blue sky and mindful walks and hikes in unspoilt landscapes help daily life disappear very rapidly into the distance.
